Incorporating Saunders into 2nd semester

Hi people,

I have read several threads that recommend using an NCLEX study guide with Med/Surg. How do you incorporate the study guide while taking the class? I plan on buying the Saunders book, not to study for NCLEX, but to help with Med/Surg. A response from anyone who is doing this and knows it helps would be greatly appreciated...

I recommend that you use Sanunders questions as a review for what you have learned. They do have excellent teaching materials involved in the book, but not in the question section.

I also have been doing other books and CD's and I find a lot of the questions are different from Saunders. I guess I am getting test jitters now because I am retaking the NCLEX to renew my RN license. They require it after you license has been lapsed over 8 years.

Any help, comfort, ANYTHING will help.

I definitely recommend using an NCLEX study guide for Med/Surg! I have the Saunders book too, and I used it in addition to my class notes to study for Med/Surg tests. For example, if our test was going to cover cardiac, shock, and respiratory, I would study my notes from class and then study the corresponding sections in Saunders. Some of the sections don't have their own specific chapters (for example, shock), but some, like cardiac and respiratory, do. You can review the outline in each chapter and then take the practice tests at the end of the chapters. In fact, some of our test questions even came right from these NCLEX books because the teachers used them as reference too.
