Hi All -
I started NS this fall and need to purchase a stethoscope. My instructor told us yesterday that if we have a cheapie (my spraguelight) we may want to upgrade, however, she didn't give us any recomendations.
I would like to order ASAP. Any input that you could provide I would appreciate so much.
Regards,
Kathie

I'm thinking of getting an Ultrascope or the Littman Master Cardiology.
Ultrascopes are so cool looking, but Littman is the gold standard.
Perhaps it is overkill, but I am asking my family for nursing stuff (including a right smart PDA) for Christmas, Birthday and "Honey I'm sorry" gifts.
I just remind them of the many college books, semesters of tuition, tanks of gas, bills and babysitting fees have paid for them all!

Hi Kathie!!
I personally like Littman. I think spending $40-$65 on any brand would be sufficient for a nursing student. I think I had a Littman II SE in school. The one I use now is $160 Littman Master Cardiology. I will tell you that you can hear heart tones/lung sounds alot better with the more expensive stethoscopes. You get what you buy.

If I had to do it all over, I'd get the best I could afford for school. That's where I needed it to learn hearing all those sounds. For me, I had a Littman Classic SE II. A good scope, but I couldn't hear what others were hearing. I upgraded after graduation to a Master Cardiology, and what a difference. I wish I'd had it back then.
