Nurses Job Hunt

Hello everyone,

I'm an RN with almost 2 years of experience living in San Diego, CA. I'm on the hunt for a new job but I'm having some difficulties. I went to school in RI and moved to CA due to my husband's military orders. At the time that I moved I had no experience. I applied for many new grad residencies and was only selected to interview for one hospital and was not picked for the position. My first job was at an post acute-care facility which was awful. I had no support and a lot of anxiety being there. After 3 months I was able to find a job in outpatient psychiatric clinic. I have been working there ever since. I worked for a little over a year in psych then moved down to on-call since I decided to go back to school for NP. I'm attending school full time and again have been applying non-stop to get into a hospital per diem or part-time. I'm not having any luck even getting an interview. The issue is that I'm not sure what it is that I'm doing wrong. I have some experience and I would like to think my resume is well put together. I have been turned down via email and I'm having a hard time figuring out why. I'm not sure if it's because I'm in school or that most of my experience is outpatient. I'm a hard worker and fast learner but I'm starting to feel really down about my abilities and just career choice in general. I didn't anticipate it to this difficult to find a job that I like as a nurse especially since most of my classmates that remained in RI have had success working in a hospital setting. I would like to still acquire experience while in school so that I will be a more well-rounded NP when I graduate. If anyone can give me some advice as to how I can potentially increase my chances to at least get an interview that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
