  1. I was recently offered a job that my friend facilitated for me. It’s not my dream job and pay isn’t great but I’ve had a hard time finding a job period. Since the COVID situation happened, I was offered a temp position with a local hospital and the VA. I did the on boarding process for the local hospital but then they suddenly decided not to move forward with orientation and I was told they would keep us posted. The VA has a very slow process and I haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone there so my application hasn’t moved forward in well over 3 weeks now. My friend called me yesterday and basically discouraged me from starting the job at her company. She thinks I will leave as soon as a better opportunity comes and she doesn’t want her boss to hold that against her. I could use a job right now but I don’t want to upset my friend. She thinks her boss would not give her a good recommendation if she moved on to another job herself. I have worked with her for a different company and she actually quit mid-shift and it was super dramatic. I don’t think she’s in a place to discourage me from taking the job but I really don’t want to ruin anything for her either. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I don’t know if I should wait for the right opportunity? Or take the job for the time being even though my friend doesn’t want me to. Thank you.
  2. Hello everyone, I'm an RN with almost 2 years of experience living in San Diego, CA. I'm on the hunt for a new job but I'm having some difficulties. I went to school in RI and moved to CA due to my husband's military orders. At the time that I moved I had no experience. I applied for many new grad residencies and was only selected to interview for one hospital and was not picked for the position. My first job was at an post acute-care facility which was awful. I had no support and a lot of anxiety being there. After 3 months I was able to find a job in outpatient psychiatric clinic. I have been working there ever since. I worked for a little over a year in psych then moved down to on-call since I decided to go back to school for NP. I'm attending school full time and again have been applying non-stop to get into a hospital per diem or part-time. I'm not having any luck even getting an interview. The issue is that I'm not sure what it is that I'm doing wrong. I have some experience and I would like to think my resume is well put together. I have been turned down via email and I'm having a hard time figuring out why. I'm not sure if it's because I'm in school or that most of my experience is outpatient. I'm a hard worker and fast learner but I'm starting to feel really down about my abilities and just career choice in general. I didn't anticipate it to this difficult to find a job that I like as a nurse especially since most of my classmates that remained in RI have had success working in a hospital setting. I would like to still acquire experience while in school so that I will be a more well-rounded NP when I graduate. If anyone can give me some advice as to how I can potentially increase my chances to at least get an interview that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
