i'm in need of some advice.
i'm currently attending hfcc and i will be on the waitlist by the end of fall semester. i'm trying figure out what sould i take in winter 08. i'm trying to make a decision whether to take bsn courses (i'm looking to transfer to u of m in ann arbor) in which i will have to take chem 132, hpe 153 or taking courses such as nsg 285 pathophysiology and i already took medical terminology to help prepare for the nursing program.
and if anyone who took pathophysiology prior to the nursing program did it help you at all for the nursing program???

hi
i'm in the same boat as you right now. i too get on the list end of fall! have you finished your anatomy and phys classes? i only have anatomy 2 to take and ill take that in the fall. if you really want your bsn i say go for it take as many classes as you can for it and get them out of the way.
did you talk to anyone about when you might get into the program? i keep hearing different things they've confused me

I took patho over the summer. I am still on the waitlist. Just to warn you it is a *****. I learned a ton, but I didnt understand some of it and it had me lost for most of the semester. If you take it be prepared to spend a ton of time studying and reading. It is definately not an easy class.

I was sort of in your position, I was on the waiting list by spring/May of 07 and I was called by fall/Nov to join the pgm for winter. I went to a few informational meetings of potential schools I was looking to transfer to... buyer beware pathophysiology may not xfer to all universities alot of them require you to take it there so I would stick to the sciences such as chemistry and micro or classes like philosophy or poli sci although I understand that you'd like to take something you feel will help you out in the nursing pgm. I didn't take patho, or medical term and I have NO medical experience. NONE. And so far (although it may be too early to tell) I get it without any doubt or confusion... sometimes quicker than people with medical backgrounds because I'm taking it in fresh and without trying to put my own experiential spin on things.
Basically, don't wear yourself out worrying about trivial things (like I did) just understand what your transfer school requires and just try and chip away at em' little by little. Or u can just enjoy the free time while you're waiting to get in because once u start... u won't have much of it.
Thnx for all of your responses . I 'm just going to stick with taking courses that are required for my BSN.

I am in the same boat and will be on the list after Fall. I am taking A&P I, Intro to Soc, Comp2 and Pharmacology right now and have finished Comp1, Psych 1 and Intro to Bio. My plan is to take A&P II and Cold War (fulfills Oakland University requirement) in Winter, then Patho in Spring, Chem 1 in Summer, then Chem 2 and Microbio in Fall. Even if I get accepted for Fall, I will be deferring to Winter since I need to stay at my job as long as possible (I will have to leave it after the first semester). The grad date will still be the same since students who start in Winter take Spring and Summer classes.
As far as Patho, I am sure the benefits outweigh the cons, whatever those may be, of taking it and am looking forward to it. I am sure it will help in nursing courses.

You need chem in order to get on the list. and be careful about how many classes you take since they only transfer a certain amout of credits.
I have Chem taken from before but I want to refresh myself. So I am all set for the list. I have a countdown of 50 credits which I am hoping to take at HFCC, that's the limit at Oakland Univ (63-13 for RN), and Wayne State is much more. Let me know if you have any other info.
I am actually also taking Dev. Psych and possibly Nutrition along with A&PII and Cold War next semester. Do you think that is too much? 2 of them online (Cold War and Dev Psych).
Thanks
nope i'm in the psych class now and i have wwII online. both are pretty easy, for me atleast. although it depends on who you have for A&P.
did you know wayne has a RN- Masters? I am thinking of applying for that when I graduate.
don't know about nutrition though I have yet to take it.
I actally wanted to take WWII more but Cold War is listed as fulfilling the requirement for West Civ. I think they didn't offer WWII back when they put that together. I have Bittar and most likely will have him for A&P II and I know how to deal with his class - its more Physiology heavy than anatomy and it's straightforward. His lectures are actually amazingly informative sometimes.
I am planning on doing Anesthesia so the MSN isn't really helpful for that as far as I understand. Otherwise I am going to pick either Wayne or Oakland, but I like the all online idea.
