In need of advice before I sign up with Nursing institute only ABHES accredited!

Published

Hello,

I recently graduated from a Florida state community college (fully transferable) with my AA degree. I am interested in applying to a private Nursing school (American Medical Academy). they offer the ASN program that prepares you to write the N-Clex RN exam. This school is only accredited through ABHES. The director of Nursing also confirmed that credits are not transferable to another institution if I were to quit the program and not graduate. Please help me decide if this is a good move as it will cost me a pretty penny and only reason I'm going this route is because local community colleges have terribly long waiting lists and more requirements I would have to meet. 😑🤑😧

ok best of luck to you and unless you have a bad criminal history you should be ok anywhere! Don't sell yourself short, Keiser is ok but very expensive and I believe their credits are only transferable to Nova, but don't quote me on that do some research. Listen, I have 3 children (a 9 yr old girl and 4 year old twin boys) it's hectic but I figure if I only have one shot at this I will take a little longer but I want to do it the best route possible! Be blessed, you can do it!!! í ¼í¼»í ½í¸„

Don't do it!

I know that it seems that this will satisfy your desire to become a nurse in the time frame that you want. However, in the long run it will cost you more when you decide to further your education. Even if that is not a goal right now, it very likely will be if and when you put 'RN' behind your name. Wait or research other schools. Look into taking those pre-reqs while you wait - not sure if you can take them online or at your local CC? Take your time and look at the big picture - best of luck to you!

People, stop looking at private, for profit schools!! They are nothing but scams to take your money. I promise. Here's a good idea of what schools not to go to, go and sit at a BON meeting for your state. I promise pretty much every school that has to go before them and explain themselves are for profit schools. You won't get hired at any decent place after graduation if you attend one of these schools, even if you graduate and manage to pass NCLEX.
