In my dreams

Published

As a "well-seasoned" critical care nurse, I've worked LOTS of codes. One thing I've discovered over the years is that I almost invariably dream about a code, whether successful or not. It's almost like a replay, "fixing" mistakes that may have been made, analyzing what might have led up to it. I invariably wake up feeling like I've been working all night (or day, as the case may be). Does anyone else do this? What other things make nurses have work-related dreams? :zzzzz

jeannie,

actually, i have only had one work related dream that i can recall? i contribute that to a movie i saw...lmao! :chuckle

i was at work and the velocoraptors (from jurassic park) were loose in the hospital, and i was trying to outrun them and keep safe. as i am running towards the ambulance bay doors in the er to get out, i hit the door! the doors were locked and i couldn't get out!!!

me :)

The only dreams I usually have about work are the ones where I'm trying to get there on time! I hate those dreams where you're just getting later and later!

I also had a work related dream once after a scary movie. There was a mad man loose in the hospital. The entire dream was me & my hubby running around the hospital trying to stay away from bad man, but trying to find our son, who was a patient on the pediatric floor

Heather

I used to dream about untangling i/v's! (I work in ICU, lots and lots of i/v's for one patient!!) Now, I rarely dream about my work. What's more frustrating than come back to work only to work in your dreams again...

;)

I've had the occasional work related dream...

usually involves me darting awake at some ungodly hour to go check on my patient,or answering a call bell or resetting an IV pump

other nonsense stuff that is stuck in the recesses of my brain ,that I just cant kick no matter how hard I try....one time I did have the sweet work related dream of coming into some major cashola and going into work that day and just saying "hello goodbye" type of thing

also had a dream that brad pitt was a patient in the hospital I worked at ....no no nothing like that

infact I remember myself being as big a blundering idiot as I'm sure I would be around him in real life

so very realistic dream that was

come on guys, we need to dream of unrelated work things, unless of course brad pitt is invovled......

Thanks for some cool answers! I don't know which is scarier: codes or raptors or IV tubings (or Brad Pitt!). Nice to know I'm not completely alone. :zzzzz

After busy and stressful shifts I am more likely to dream about work, which is exactly when I wish I could get away from it! Arrrgh!

calllights in the distance, alarms...which alarm was that..., wdif.....what did i forget.......when you wake up out of a start and like wdif.......

oh you wake up way too foggy and think i have to go and do for this pt.....and you are at home.........

for me some time......home is work.......

most dreams don't remember and this is a good thing.....

velicoraptors wrapped up in iv tubings.....now that is a pic to imagine....

I dream about the people I work with, especially the docs and anesthetists. Sometimes these dreams are of a sexual nature. Although I find this disturbing, I realize it is because I spend more time with these people than with my own family members.

I remember a dream where my manager said "you only have patients in six rooms." Ended up each "room" was a large ward with like 20 beds in it.

Six rooms, indeed!!!:uhoh3:

It takes several years to pass after i have experienced something in reality to enter my dreams. In other words, I can't start to have dreams about working in a hospital until 2005, perhaps. Lately my dreams have been kinda lose, because of my sleep pattern being all messed up with working so much.

I'm due for a good death nightmare, where I die. I enjoy waking up from those nightmares, and the scarey moments before I wake up. My last death nightmare had me shaking off a high bridge, smashing on the sides :-)

No way Mario, you will be at least 84 or 86 and the scenario is different.....one of my psychic friends told this about you to me.............

lol,

micro

p.s. keep waking up.....that is the key.........

hehehehehehehehehehehehehhehehehehee
