Important topic on the Polls board regarding overtime

I wanted to bring this topic over here because it is SOOOOOOO important. There is an issue on the Polls board regarding facilitys not paying overtime. Does everyone here realize that this is a direct violation of FEDERAL LAW!!! Your employer cannot refuse to pay you overtime for time worked because it is not approved. Nor can they change your time punches without YOUR SIGNATURE! This is illegal and they can be FINED huge amounts for doing this. You can report your institution without them giving your name. We need to make sure that this practice stops.

*climbing off my soap box*

Well, as pointed out to me by a DOL rep, they can do it, and they can get away with it--- until they are reported ;)

It seems your as passionate about this as I am. My blood just boils when I hear that this is going on. I DARE someone to tell me to punch out then finish my work. Sure, just let me go make a phone call first...:lol2:

I was night resource for years before I went into travel nursing. I ticked off alot of people by making them clock back in if I caught them working off the clock.

Good for you! My hospital will pay you for doing unit competencies and readings at home! All you have to do is report what you have done and how long it took you. I love getting in bed with my laptop and getting paid to read. We get paid for everything (base rate sucks, hence my nickname).

I think the thing people fail to realize is that your employer cannot just issue a blanket statement like they will no longer be paying overtime. If you work it, they have an obligation to pay you. Period.
