there is a new loan coming out (those of you who have received yale financial aid packets know about it). it's called the gradplus loan. it's a new federal loan that works pretty much like the other federal loans, especially the original plus loan, but the best part is that you don't need cosigners or parental information to get it. also, it is easier to get than a private loan because they do not use credit scoring or debt to income ratios!!! this loan was created by government specifically for graduate and professional students as an alternative to private loans!!
here's the link with the specifics:

You rock lovingpecola!!!!! Still waiting on my financial aid packet from Yale, I called them, and there has been some glitch, but thankfully, recognizing that it is their problem, they are extending the acceptance date for those of us who got screwed up in the computer system.
I am so happy you posted about this loan!!!!!!!!!! :roll

oh.my.gosh.
you have NO idea how much I love you, lovingpecola.
i have been REALLY stressing out about how to pay for Hopkins, especially beacause I don't meet the income requirements, have no cosigner, and found out someone's been using my identity.
OMGOMGOMG!! My dream might come true!!! I won't be getting my financial aid packet for a loong while, but this gives me so much hope.
thank you thank you thank you!!
You're welcome!!!! This is exactly how I felt when I found out about it!! I was screaming my head off, and I'm not even sure I will be approved! I can't wait to apply!

Thanks, dude!!! Do you know if it's available for the first year of DE programs? Cause the trouble I had was that I'm not reeeeaally a grad student yet...
Welllll, I don't know if it's available to *Columbia* DE students because of how your program is set up...
but it IS available to YALE GEPNS! (we are graduate students upon entering the program!)
But of course we dont get a BS like you folks!
Hi Eliza!!
I'm not sure, but hopefully it is like the Citibank deal, where you say you're a 1st year grad student. I'm not going direct-entry, but that's what Hopkins students were told last year to put. Oh please please please let this work! :biggringi
hmmmm on my Columbia financial aid it is specified that DE students are "5th year undergraduates" so I don't know....
But I hope so for you guys, I really do!!

Hi Lovingpecola, have you decided whether you're going to Yale or Columbia? I'm going to look into the financial aid info you posted. Thanks! :)
I could not get into the second link you posted. Was anyone else successful in opening it? Thanks.

WOW!!! This is fantastic news. Thanks so much! I was wondering how to cover the gap at Georgetown next year, as an adult with a working husband, but still without an extra $50K just hanging around! Thank you so much for posting this!!!!!!
