Im thinking of getting my BSN, and I already have my B.A. in Sociology

So, im dating someone in the miltary, and i need a career that I can take with me anywhere since were moving in together. I wanted to get into Public Health, and get my MPH, but its much harder to find a job (especially when your moving around all the time). Since I already have my B.A. I can go to college for an accelerated BSN program, thats about 1-1.5 years. Itll still keep me in the health field, and will give me more options. And we all know, a B.A. in sociology, doesnt get you much. Any thoughts? I dont want to end up one of those stay at home military wives. Its just not me...

You could certainly get into any kind of nursing program you wanted. Take the prereqs, apply, get in, and in a year to two years you're done. You can do all your prereqs online, from real schools, and be done with it in a pretty short amount of time if you get cracking. Nursing attempts to align itself with the social scienes (for reasons unknown to me) so you'll probably be very at ease with the socio-cultural atmosphere of the classes. Some areas have trouble with the market for nurses, but in others you don't really notice. All said though, it'll be a readily obtainable, marketable, and transferrable degree. Have fun!

Get on it. You will absolutely have more options open to you in the nursing field. A BSN is does not automatically equal a job but once you get about a year of med-surg experience under your belt, you can apply for just about any other type of nursing job that you find interesting.
