Hi everyone! :) So I'm a little stuck right now. After this semester, I will have complete almost all of my pre-reqs at my community college. I only have stats, chem, and microbiology left, and I was planning to finish them this fall semester, after which I will finally have my A.A. (and hopefully maintained my 3.8 GPA)!
What I want to know is where do I go from here? I'm in pursuit of a BSN program preferably in Florida, and I really want to go to a university, but I've been told most Florida universities prioritize their own students first, and that they also only accept nursing students once a year, during the fall! If that's the case, then I would have to wait until Fall 2014 to get in, which I don't want to do. I would even apply to a uni in the NJ/NY area but I really don't know if their requirements are the same! It's like the clock is ticking and I have no idea what to do.
Ugh so confused! I feel like a mess, lol.

I was in the same boat when applying to schools. honestly try private universities first (there's where I am at), definitely more expensive but probably a better chance of getting accepted

Did you post in the FL state Programs? I think you will have better luck getting information on that section of the forum.
I am not much help here as I am in TN, however I did look into 1 FL Accelerated BSN Program and that was USF. I attended an informational session and was told it was a blind review. Thus no preference was given due to geography or where previous Undergrad work was completed.
It worked like this (again this is USF only, I do not know about any other FL ABSN programs)
30% Cum GPA = score
30% Prereq. GPA = score
40% Blind review of essay questions = score
And add the 3 scores together to determine rank. Top x ranked people get accepted.
Also... It is all overwhelming. I remember being where you are not long ago. Trying to balance prereq requirements with deadlines and trying to figure out next steps, where to apply, etc. etc. etc.
My best advice is take a deep breath. Relax. Research your options. Prioritize your list for where you want to apply and make it happen.
I know this is all easier said than done. I spent countless hours research last semester. I feel as if I put in as much research time as I did study time. In the end it finally paid off and I had my short list of schools to apply to and it all tracked out. Luckily, I got into the first program I applied to which was also probably my second choice. I am waiting to here from others still, and will eventually make my final decision. But at least I can say the research was worth it.
I heard that private universities award a good amount of financial aid so that the tuition pretty much even outs with state unis. But I'm definitely looking into it!

USF is one of the schools I'm looking into, so thanks a lot for the info! :) I'm really overwhelmed. I feel frustrated because I've been working my butt off to stay on top, only to be at a loss as to what to do now

This is not always true. I go to a private school and my tuition is $550 per credit hour, take that times 17 which is about the average number of credits per semester and you have whooping $9,350 plus books, ect. I don't have the best GPA (3.79), but I get about $500 a semester from the school as a "scholarship", no grant money, no other scholarship, I have to pay around $1,500-2,000 per semester extra that my loans don't cover, and currently, I have about $50,000 in debt through loans. So the loans you will get will be higher, meaning that you will get more money, but you will still have to pay it off later, and that doesn't guarantee that you will even have any left over, or worse have to owe money each semester.

With private schools u really want to do you research and find out what they will be offering you. Ex: My school is 33k a year, I have a $4,500 transfer scholarship applied every semester, about $4,500 in state grants/financial aid every semester. Fortunately for me I also have a military background' which covers the rest of my tuition, my friends aren't that lucky. Some will be graduating 60-100,000 in debt. You definitely don't want that on your plate when you graduate. But literally 10 mins from my school is another private/catholic university and their tuition is 10,000 a year....so do ur research. BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!
