I'm pretty sure I need to resign...

I wrote a post a few weeks ago about a LTC facility that offered me pretty low starting pay for a PRN RN position and then when they sensed I was going to turn it down increased the pay. I truly did not desire to work in the area of LTC at all but I was getting nowhere in my job hunt and got great feedback that even a PRN position in LTC would be better than nothing and might open other doors for me, so I accepted the job.

Several weeks passed and I was finally told all my background checks cleared. I went in to do paperwork, computer orientation, etc and was asked to coordinate with "staffing" (who I later found out is a secretary there) about my schedule/start date. The lady in staffing then tells me I'm already scheduled for every other weekend! I've done PRN work before as a LPN and I've always given my availability and/or coordinated based on open shifts--never was I put in for shifts without being asked and with a few days notice. After I told her I had another job, she told me to call her with my availability. I called a few days later and left a message that I'm calling to give my availability. Several days passed without a call back. Then I get a text message telling me I failed to show up for the weekend to do floor orientation and did I still want to work there? :banghead:

I remember a quote from the late Dr. Maya Angelou that goes something like: When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. There were a few other things that made me question this place, but now I feel like I just need to bow out before they try to terminate me. I've called and left a message for the DON, but nobody ever calls back so I'm thinking I should just type a resignation letter so I have something in writing and take it there personally. Just needed to vent about this. Any feedback is welcomed.

Wow. That is very messed up. You're PRN and they have already scheduled you for every other weekend without checking to see if you are available? I would not consider working for a place that was so unprofessional. In fact I recently ran away from a staffing agency for something similar. Just send them a note politely declining their kind offer. You haven't even oriented. You don't actually work there yet.

Thanks for sharing your experience and input! The thing is I specifically told the staffing person that I would call with my availability so she should've took me off the schedule until further notice. For her to send me a text asking me why I didn't show up is ridiculous. Let's not even mention the HR person taking an employee ID picture with a personal cellphone. Yeah...my thanks but no thanks note is already typed and ready to be delivered tomorrow.

They are trying to set you up for a termination based on "no call, no show". Beat them to the punch with an employment declination letter with the particulars worded in a way to show that you were not a "no call, no show", and send the letter certified, return receipt requested. And I would never list this on any resume or job app in the future. No paycheck, no employment.

Good idea caliotter3. I never want to be at a place where I'm set up to fail from the get-go.

I can just picture that employee who pressured you about the "scheduled shifts" you missed. She sounds precisely like more than one such person I have met along the way. You learn to never present your back to people like that, especially when they have influence over your livelihood.
