Okay Ive been in the navy nurse corps for about a few months and understand I can't date any of the sailors. Why is this and is there a way around it? I'm only asking because there is a sailor that I befriended and we've grown to like eachother a lot. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question/post by the way.

The rules about dating sailors are in place for a reason. Not to say that sailor you've befriended isn't great, but is he great enough to risk your career in corps? I say follow the rules and stop trying to find ways around them. If the relationship is really that important, drop out of the corps and pursue it. Just don't be defiant against the corps, it may come back to bite you.... Good luck!!!

The UCMJ only allows for close friendships and romantic relationships between Officers and Enlisted in the event that they both: A) existed before the Officer accepted their commission or warrant and B) are not prejudicial to good order and discipline. If you were to pursue a relationship that doesn't meet that criteria, you would be at fault and risking your career. The Enlisted person does not face anywhere near the punishment that you would. As I am sure you have heard before "You are an Officer in the United States Navy and are expected to uphold a higher standard."

That being said your choices and actions are your own. Do what is best for you.

Fraternizing between enlisted/officer is difficult at best. My husband and I were both enlisted when we got together. However, he was my direct supervisor.

So...long story short, I was moved to a different shift and eventually came down on orders to a ship while he was staying in Japan...with our then 4 month old son.

Uh, no, nope, no way! I ended up getting out. We've been married almost 32 years now and I don't regret my decision as I love my husband very very much. That said, I do sometimes wonder what might have been with my USN career.

Don't do it. Certain commands have a zero tolerance policy for this....even if you're not attached to the same command/ship/workspace.

You are not the first nurse fresh out of school and new in the Navy to want to hook-up with an enlisted sailor. When I was a Corpsman in the Navy I saw this happen on more than one, two, or even three occasions. I can tell you from experience, EVERY nurse that I knew that did that got busted...and so did the enlisted sailor he/she was dating. You will get a negative eval that will make promotion difficult and potentially push you out of the military. The sailor will get busted down in rank and lose some of his/her pay...and it will also be VERY difficult for him/her to get a promotion and they may get pushed out, as well. On top of that, EVERYONE will hear about it in the hospital and will look down on you. You'd be surprised how long something like that will follow you around in the military...even after you've changed duty stations. "Fraternization" is not permitted, and if people even catch wind of it your relationship will become the number one talked about drama around the hospital. It CANNOT be kept secret. It WILL be found out about.
