I'm having doubts about nursing... :(

Okay everyone, I am just starting my second semester of nursing school and I just had my first day at orientation on the med-surge floor that I will be at this semester. This is my first semester doing clinicals.. Long story short, I absolutely hated it. But there are several factors that may have affected my experience with it. Because it was orientation we were not set up with computer access so some of us were set up to shadow an RN, and others were set up to shadow a CNA. I got set up to shadow a CNA, I felt so unfulfilled.. We literally changed sheets, and cleaned poop the whole time. I was envious of my other classmates that got the opportunity to shadow nurses. The whole day I kept thinking to myself, am I really busting my a** in nursing school for this? It was extremely disheartening and discouraging. I went home almost in tears. Now let me back up and acknowledge the fact, that YES I WAS WITH A CNA, and I am sure it is much better actually shadowing a nurse. I was able to pop in and tag along with other classmates, but even then it was kind of boring. I know I should probably give it another chance but it was not a good first impression at all by any means.

I guess I just thought it would be more exciting... I would be able to use more of my nursing skills. I just don't know if I will ever like the med-surge floor.

Honey, I am proud to say that you officially had your first #**** day! Some days, even as a Cardiothoracic ICU nurse, all I do is bed baths and linen changes after code brown after code brown. The key to being an amazing RN is mastering being an amazing CNA first. Learning to quickly change beds, change briefs, multi-task, prioritize non-life threatening tasks and master simple skills that you will have to be doing 4 or 5 at a time as an RN is pivotal!! It will get better, you WILL have your time with a nurse, and she will probably brush you off, treat you like crap, make you think you're stupid (you're not) and act inconvenienced by you. That is just the way of the world and the nature of the beast. Once you're out in the world, you will be a new nurse, and it starts all over. I promise you you will look back on this and be thankful for your experiences, and you will have learned so much in the process. Keep your head up, I promise it gets better, you are making a difference, and you are learning the whole job. xxoo.

Wow. This is one of the whinest and hardest to relate to posts I've ever seen here, but we're in the wrong for reading it as it is? I think not. From putting down the CNA, being ready to quit after LITERALLY ONE DAY, and finding the work "boring," no wonder people are finding your post absurd and childish.

We have all seen whiners on the floor. The ones who complain about everything, expect help getting their work done but can't be found when anyone else needs help, the people who can pull down the most productive floor and who can completely ruin one that's less organized. We've seen your attitude before and know far too well how well it works (doesn't) at work. When people tell you to do yourself a favor and change your attitude, they're not just being ******. Nor am I when I tell you right now that if you refuse to change then nursing is not the place for you. No one needs this kind of negative black hole making a hard job harder.

I'm sorry... did I say anything in that post about not liking to clean up poop? Hm... I don't think so. I think you may have missed the point of what I was trying to say...

You said you were so disappointed/jealous because you shadowed a PCT while your classmates shadowed a nurse. Without piling on you, as you stated, it was your FIRST clinical. If you have no medical experience, you can learn a lot from a PCT. Such as the best way to clean a patient, change the linens with the patient in the bed, etc. They know the tricks. This will come in handy when you have patients when you don't have a tech. And what nursing skills do you have at this early stage of nursing school?

During school, my med surg rotations were so mind numbing and soul crushing i considered quitting. Im hired not as a floor nurse and love what i do. Find your specialty. Youll have plenty of time to figure it out

Hello everyone, Iam a RN .I have a doubt regarding the CGFNS visa screen processing, all my files except for my english proficiency exam had been sent to them and received by them . Recently ,I passed my ielts exam and i have sent my file to them. Should i do anything else like the TRF no or should i add the english exam option in the cgfns site ...and they have to review only that since other files are already done and after that only i can apply for the expedited services. Is expedited services good and genuine ? could someone please give their opinion
