After serious soul searching, I've decided that I want to be a NURSE. By the end of the year, I will be applying to 4 different schools in Georgia; EMORY, GPC, Georgia State University and Kennesaw State University. I've read a lot of threads on pre-reqs. I'm willing to give 'MY ALL' to study nursing but I don't know if I should start my prereqs before applying to the universities. OR should I just wait till I'm accepted to the school, take my pre-reqs and apply to NURSING SCHOOL? I would also be glad to receive any advice about applying.
Thank you in advance. :)

You need to research the admission requirements for each nursing school you are considering. Nursing school is very competitive. Most programs will require you to have a number of prereqs completed before you apply.

Hi there,
I was in the same boat as you 2 years ago. I would strongly suggest that you atleast do 80% of the prereqs before you apply. The more you do before you actually start nursing classes the better off you will be.
Thank you so much for all the advice.

Definitely start on the pre-reqs, some will be common to all of these schools. Also, get a volunteer position NOW if you are not already working in healthcare. Look into pre-testing requirements for admission application for each school (NET? MAT? GRE?)
My two cents: GPC is ADN only, so if you are looking to get a BSN, its out. Even if you want a ADN, GPCs program is VERY crowded, often a long wait. GPC is good for pre-reqs: low price, classes offered at lots of times, several locations. I've heard good things about KSU, but don't know much about it. My friend is going to GSU, I didn't consider it because I had most of the Emory pre-reqs already, whereas GSU required different classes that would have taken me an additional year to get through. My friend is very happy with her choice of GSU.
Personally, I am starting at Emory in less than three weeks. My advice is not to let the price tag scare you. Apply for financial aid at all the schools you are interested in and THEN make a decision. GSU vs. Emory was virtually no price difference for me since I'm out of state and Emory offered a scholarship.
Look into hospital sponsored financial aid in exchange for work after graduation. Emory Crawford Long, CHOA, St. Joe's, Piedmont, and Northside all offer such programs. Explore all your options and best of luck! You can PM me with any specific questions.

Thanks a great deal. I'll do my best. Good luck at Emory.

That's great that you've finally decided to become a nurse. It's very hard work that you should be prepared for. I'm still not prepared for college period [Just graduated in May].
Good Luck ladyfairy and amytheodd on your future success!
