Illinois Nurse wants Excelsior study!!

Published

Hello to all you fabulous nurses! I'm new to the site and came to ask a question. I'm very interested in enrolling with Excelsior College. 1- it's more practical. I can work, and still do my studies. 2- the waiting lists here are crazy, my science courses are 6yrs old, so that means REPEAT! and even if I did, that doesn't promise a spot. I went to talk to a couple of 4 year universities but they added more classes that are pre-req's for their school, plus the science courses! It's depressing :( I read on allnurse's about Excelsior and decided to give it a go. Yes I know that Illinois B.O.N. doesn't recognize Excelsior students for 2 years after working, then you may work in Illinois. I live very close to the Indiana border so I don't mind becoming a Indiana nurse then bring it to Illinois. So I guess I'm asking has anyone done this? or heard of a nurse doing this?

Moved to Excelsior College Online Nursing Degrees forum to elicit further response. Hopefully someone has been in your shoes and can offer some solid advice. Good luck in your educational endeavors.

I think you should go for it ! I love Excelsior so far. It fits right into my work schedule. I have had no problems getting my questions answered by the advisors and honestly think I am learning more, but not having to spend extra time on "group" projects, driving to school, and jumping through other "hoops" at my community college. If you live close enough to work outside of your state, or move ... that is great. I'm fortunate my state accepts Exelsior graduates, as every state should. Good luck !! Oh, and be careful because they are changing the time frame on accepting science pre-reqs soon, that is why I hurried up to get in.

I just copied this from Excelsior's website:

New rules taking effect after Oct. 1, 2012:

The anatomy and physiology and the microbiology requirements will be accepted toward the associate degree in nursing if they were completed no more than five years prior to the date of enrollment and meet the content requirements as outlined in the current nursing catalog.

The anatomy and physiology and the microbiology requirements must be completed before registering for associate degree in nursing theory examinations with the exception of the Transition to the Registered Professional Nurse Role examination.

Good luck !!

Thanks! For moving my question. Like I said just signed up yesterday. Thanks! also for letting me know about the deadline. Hopefully 1 nurse who graduated from Excelsior from Illinois will answer :nurse:
