Illinois license, not from Illinois

Published

Hello everyone, I'm new here and just want to say I love you guys. Almost every question I've asked myself about nursing and nursing school has been answered on this website. You all are awesome.

I want to know how do I go about getting a Illinois license if I'm going to graduate from a Louisiana nursing school? I just got accepted to an accelerated program and will finished next summer, but I want to move back to Chicago soon as my boards are done. I just graduated from college in Lisle, IL in 2006 and I absolutely loved the 4 years I was there, and I want to return to the city. I'm just confused as to how I go about getting my license from there. Do I get my license here, and then go up there and get another one, or what exactly? It sounds like its tricky and I would just like some clarification. Thanks so much.

For fear of sounding like a broken record around here, see if you can contact the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and inquire to them. Otherwise, your school should be able to direct you in the best route to take or what would be the easiest route, either taking NCLEX in Louisiana or moving up here and taking it in Illinois. There should be someone at your school that can help. Whoever helps students with their ATT applications or someone.

Hey Lilyellowmama,

What accellerated Nsg program are starting? I am at William Carey and finish in February and was kind of interested in the Chicago area...visited this summer and loved it and I want to move away from New Orleans after graduation so...anyway, just wondering where you were going to school and if you found out how to do the liscence in both states.

I'm starting the Accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge.

And no, I still haven't quite figured out how to do it, so I'll probably just get my license from Illinois.
