Illinois hospitals that pay for graduate school?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi, I am thinking of moving Illinois in 1-2 years to be closer to fiance's family and was wondering if anyone knew of specific hospitals that pay 100% or at least 6 hours/semester for graduate NP/CNS tuition. Around here all the hospitals directly affiliated with university's pay the whole $ if you go to their affiliated grad school whereas the rest just pay like 2-4K/year which doesn't end up covering much of the year's tuition. Of course I would like to work somewhere great, but at this point with my huge payment for my undergrad loans I just can not see taking out lots more loans for grad school (since I defninitely wouldn;t end up making lots more $ than as a staff nurse). I have tried calling a couple hospitals to find out what they offer, but they have all been very tight lipped saying it would be discussed if I were to interview.

So, if you know of anywhere that pays essentially the full-ride for grad school (at their affiliated school or others), please post the hospital name and any details you know. Or if you have details about how much tuition reimbursement for Grad school others hospitals offer please post that.

Thanks!:balloons:

I work in central IL at the tertiary care hospital and we have a College of Nursing with an MSN program that leads to adult med-surg CNS. The hospital waives tuition for its employees. Come on over!!

Taking a guess here, but Loyola Medical Center/Loyola University at Chicago might. Any Loyola RN's working there that know for sure?

I've looked into their direct-entry MSN/NP program but it might require full-time commitment for tuition waivers. You can search for their website and I'm sure there will be a lot of information.

My only other idea is University of Illinois at Chicago; again, search for their website.

Also, there is the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana; that is less metro, more of a university-town feeling. U of I is very competitive. I have not looked into their program but I'm sure that others would know for sure.

Loyola and UI-C are within the city of Chicago; if you aren't interested in the city lifestyle, TraumaRUs has a good idea. (Then I would look into U of I at Champaign/Urbana.)

Good luck!

I've talked to reps from Loyola about that same question, and although I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head, they do pay a portion of your graduate tuition if you work there. It's not very much, though, and I remember thinking that it seemed very cheap on their part for being such a huge institution. I'm trying to get into the grad program, but not so much considering to work there because there doesn't seem to be THAT much of a benefit.
