I interviewed at a hospital last week and was SHOCKED by something the nurse manager said. She said, We have a black LPN here, and he's really good---he doesn't have that black attitude. Even the white ladies like him." She also asked me if I am hispanic, because my resume says I have translated for Spanish speaking patients. (I'm not hispanic.) She also asked if I have children...I believe that these questions are illegal, and I was appalled at the comment regarding the LPN.
How would you have handled that?
I know I'm in the Deep South, but I thought we had made some progress!

First, I would not want to work for anyone like that.
I would report it to the EEOC and write a detailed letter to the Chief of Human Resources at that hospital. But hey, that is just me. I would NOT take this lying down. This is 100% wrong.

Sorry that in the 21st Century, attitudes like this persist and so openly. It is truly discouraging.

That's something that I'd definitely do if I was in your shoes. I'm not as "deep south" as you are, but still I think we're pretty close. Some things probably will never change.
Go for the EEOC report... I wish you the best of luck!!! :)
