If manager asks about new job when I give notice.....do I tell????

Published

Help, please, I just realized something. IF my current NM asks if I am taking a new position somewhere else at the time I give her my notice, do I say "yes"? And...what if she asks where I am going.? How do I answer? Is it customary to tell where I am going? Do I say nothing? Do I say I rather NOT say? I am nervous...don't want to say the wrong thing. Please advise, I am giving notice tomorrow am....

A little on the fluffy side but you stated your intent and thanked them for the experience and education you gained there. That's pretty much all you need. I'm not too fond of the "deep regret" part in any resignation notice. It sounds like you are apologizing for doing what's best for you. But then, that's probably just me.

Good point. I'll take it out. You're right.

a response that I have always found helpful to intrusive questions is "why do you ask?"

Give your notice and really it's none of her business why you are leaving. If she's asking why you are leaving and you have had issues then tell her.

Noahsmama.... We are reacting that way because of the op's other thread where her nm sabotaged her transfer to another department...

Ahhh, I see. Yes, in that case, I would give the minimum amount of notice required by my contract and would NOT tell my NM where I was going.

I have been very lucky that I have never had a supervisor who would stoop so low (thank you, God!)
