For those that just love your job and wake up happy to go to work, what is your speciality? Have long have you been in it? What other areas have you worked before you found your niche?

Specializes in Geriatrics, Dialysis.
LTC :redbeathe as both a NA and LPN, (hmmm, Am I dateing myself with that NA? Oh well!!) For almost 25 yrs and counting. I've worked on alzheimers units, sub acute/step down units, and palliative care units. I like knowing my res's so well that I can usually tell when there is something wrong with them. And I especially love the grumpy ones :yelclap:

Finally a LTC nurse! I also love LTC, and my experience has been similar to yours - though not quite as long! Started as a CNA for 5 years, went to nursing school and worked as a Nurse Tech for 2 years while getting my degree and then as an RN Supervisor for past 10 years. Alzheimer's/Dementia care, step-down/sub-acute, diabetes care, IV therapy, wound care, palliative and hospice care are just some of things we do. I love that there is a great variety of patients/residents and not by any means all elderly. Along with the variety I actually get a chance to know my patients well, and often their families also. And I too have a tendency to really fall for the grumpy old folks, so much fun!

Specializes in ICU/CVICU/ER.

CVICU/ICU!!! I LOVE it!!! I work as a traveler so I'm always in new environments, working with different types of nurses.....the moment I get bored it's on to the next assignment!!

Prior experience: Tele, ED, PACU, Cathlab, L&D.....I've did it all!! That's 15 years of experience for you :o

Specializes in hospice, ortho,clinical review.

Clinical review RN for an imaging company. I couldn't be happier right now. I love my hours M-F only. I am making more than the hospital (money isn't everything but it's a nice bonus) I have my life back. This is most important. I'm present for my family again fully. I can still do things after work plus having full weekends. My anxiety has dropped to zero I am fully enjoying life again. Wasn't sure low stress and nursing was possible.

I am still learning, and it's interesting work, I enjoy the research and the detective work part of it. Rarely do we get charts that have all the pieces there, usually you have to review and figure out the missing pieces and track them down. I still get to talk with patients daily, true only over the phone, but I'll take that trade off for the other overall happiness. I work with an awesome group of people, supportive and a lot of fun. I couldn't ask for more right now.
