Is there a better chance of me getting a job in the ER as a new NURSING Graduate?

Any experience helps! It could certaintly help you if you are interested in emergency room nursing, and even if you aren't any experience will be beneficial in some way to your career later! Go for it: )

Specializes in Medical ICU.

I would say definitely if you are hoping to work at the same hospital. Overall, your chances are much better than someone who has zero previous medical experience.

Good Luck!

I wanted to be an ER nurse when I graduated-I simply could not see myself anywhere else for many reasons...I got a job as an ER tech/nurse extern and was the first new grad my ER hired (a little bragging here sorry) They hired a lot more after me.

I do understand why some places are against it -their personal philosophy behind learning the pratice of nursing, organization, time management, etc after terminating the student role before placing the student in the ER setting where a poor assessment can mean disaster (but this can and does happen in any unit) I'm not sure I disagree with them...

but when you want something and you are willing to work for it anything is possible! -Was it Lewis Caroll/Alice in Wonderland that said I have done 6 impossible things today alone and that was before 9 o'clock?...something like that....

If you are smart enough to know what you don't know, have very good assessment skills, get help when it's needed and work your a** off even with the resentment of some of your colleagues who had to do 2 yrs of med surg then 1 yr of ICU to get to the ER and don't think you should be there..Then go for it! I wouldn't have done it any other way.

Sincere Good Luck to you!

Specializes in M/S, MICU, CVICU, SICU, ER, Trauma, NICU.

I would think so if you are a quick study and do your work really well.
