IEN in CANADA

Published

Dear members,

I am a nurse from India with 6 years of clinical experience in intensive and transplant care unit. I came here to Canada as an immigrant. I have applied to NNAS, and unfortunately my advisory report came up as "non comparable" with Canadian education. I certainly understand that the comparision made by WES which helped me getting the Visa, was totally different from what NNAs has made. But,unfortunately I applied beleiving the fact that I would get a comparable decision. However, I came here and I can't just quit becoming an RN,which ideally is what I am here for.

So,I applied to CNO on 02-09-2015. I got an email from them on 04-09-2015 asking me to write the Jurisprudence exam.I understand that this exam is an open-book online exam, but I have no clue on what kind of questions would be asked.I am aware that there are hardly 5 questions in the CNO website to suggest what we could expect on the examination, but that 5 questions as an example is not going to help though. However,we have the option to take that exam again if we fail.At least,we have a hope there.

But,I am deeply worried with the other part. I am not sure if the CON will accept me to write the NCLEX-RN or will it ask me to take up OSCE or any other additional competency examinations. And,I have heard that certain candidates (IEN) were asked to take up 20 months course to over come the gaps in competencies. But,I am unsure of my situation, whether will my application be accepted towards writing NCLEX or towards further evaluation.

I would like to get some suggestions or advice from nurses or candidates who has undergone this situation and advice me on what step they got in through CNO. And, how did they manage the situation,etc.. I would be glad if any on you could share how you passed OSCE. If you can't reply over here please, send me a private message where I could provide my email ID or my contact number. As of now,I have no clue about my situation. So,any help from you will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance for having patience to read through this and for replying !!!

Since your education was deemed non comparable to a Canadian BScN, I think you should start preparing for the possibilty that the CNO will require you to do the OSCE. If you want to read about other IENs experiences with the OSCE, suggest you use the search button in the top right hand corner. According to the threads, many IENs found the OSCE daunting and their results showed they had gaps, but some were sucessfull and they made suggestions on how to prepare for the OSCE. As for the jurisprudence exam, I don't think you need to worry about it, the vast majority seem to pass it by simply reading and understanding the CNO documents.
