hi,
can anyone recommend a good review center for IELTS? I actually wanted to enroll for a crash course. Since i don't have the luxury of time. I took IELTS way back 2005. Therefore it has expired already. I live near pasig area, so review centers in the area might be viable for me.
thanks.

If you passed it already, then you don't need a review center. (Just my 2 cents)
You just have to recall what you reviewed..err...3 years ago! ^___^
Anyway, try KAPLAN, they spend a month for a review of all 4 subjects.
i'm afraid there are somethings that might have changed.perhaps i forgot other things such as the format..etc..anyway thanks. I actually reviewed in kaplan when i prepared for the exam in 2005.I would prefer a 5 day crash course maybe. :nuke: thanks again.
Cambridge books are very nice - it comes with a CD too! You can actually read it in less than 5 days and be ready for the exam.
I can't recommend any review center which offers only 5 days. Sorry.

Since you've already passed IELTS and just need a refresher course maybe you could find an American or British expat to chat with for a few hours every week to polish things up.
Barring that, some of the review centers like Niner and Magister offer refresher courses at a fraction of the cost for the full courses.
If you are in Manila, both of those centers are easily accessible.
However, since you are planning to work and live in the USA I would also recommend a cultural training course like the one that American English offers in addition to whatever IELTS course you are taking.
Have you also checked to make sure that the state you are applying to will recognize IELTS? Some states require TOEFL instead. It is worth your time to make sure because anyone will accept TOEFL but some will not accept IELTS.
Hi jeryl, how do i get a copy of the cambridge book? That would be another option for me since I'll be recuperating from giving birth then.Thanks.
Hushdawg, thanks so much for the suggestion. How do i find an American or British Expat? I have also heard about Magister and Niners but I don't think i can consider that as of the moment since it's in the Manila area. I intend to live and work in Canada. I planned on going to the States before (thats why i have the CVS (Credentials verification Services for NY State), NCLEX and CGFNS certificate) but plans have changed since my mother liked it better in Canada. :nuke: Plus i might not be able to use my NCLEX by the time retrogression has been lifted since i took my NCLEX for the California boards (with 3 years validity only:cry:).
But thats fine i guess. Atleast I'll be with my Mother whom i haven't been with for 14 years. Anyway, thanks again.
Fmog, there are a lot of us around the Metro Manila area and also in Cebu and Baguio.
I guess it depends on how confident you are talking to strangers; but I would approach one of us in a professional position (heck, I have students asking for help while I'm on the LRT) and just say that you are interested in brushing up on your English skills and would they have time to help.
Where in the Philippines are you? There are lots of IELTS schools with short courses anywhere there are nursing schools. Also, you may want to take a TOEFL course if you can afford it since it is more in-depth and comprehensive with the way you use English.
