Idea's for weekend work for lpn?

Published

I want to work weekends only if I can while I go back to RN school, any ideas about where to work for weekends only, and maybe a few prn hours?

I still think 16 hour shifts are not particularly safe, especially considering it's probably actually 16.5 hours actually on the job, plus commuting time home unless you live a stone's-throw away, and all that. Realistically, you'll probably be lucky to get 6 hours of sleep in between shifts.

This doesn't mean everyone who does them is unsafe, or that other options might not be more unsafe. I've done 16 hour shifts, as the alternative would be to leave the floor short-staffed. And I end up working on well less than 8 hours of sleep even more often - the joys of being an insomniac with a one year old.

But if OP is questioning the safety, it may be an indication that, for her, it wouldn't be safe to do on a routine basis.

So I guess a better response is that there's no blanket answer to the question of safety. It's going to depend on your personal sleep needs, commute time, and so forth.
