Ideas on applying to St Louis Hospitals

U.S.A. Missouri

I will be starting a nursing program this spring in St Louis and I am also looking for parttime job also. Most of the hospital jobs you apply online for, but i really need to get my foot in the door. Does speaking to someone in HR help? I don't know anyone personally at the various St. Louis hospitals. I am sure they get hundreds of applications a day. Just wanted to get some ideas.

Thanks you

My daughter just heard from a second hospital in town after submitting her app almost 2 months ago. She's now got 2 job offers and possibly a 3rd between the two.

Hang in there....

Thanks i will keep my fingers crossed. I put a couple more applications in at a different hospital so we will wait and see.

I'd encourage you to be very persistant. Find out where the Human Resources office is and find the name(s) of the nurse recruiter(s) and then simply stop by sometime. Be prepared to actually interview - even though of course you probably wouldn't really do so under such circumstances - but you might stumble into an opportunity to present yourself in a good light to someone who might facilitate the process for you. If nothing else, get the name of the receptionist, etc, make a good impression on them, if nothing else... It's all worthwhile.

1 other idea: If you're taking prereqs or any healthcare-oriented classes, talk to your classmates, especially the ones who walk in wearing scrubs and looking bleary eyed! After getting aquainted with someone who already has the job you're looking for, their willingness to pass your name on can almost guarantee you an interview, at least if you present yourself well to that student. Anyhoo... just a few more ideas, all of which worked for me! Good luck.

Thanks. Those sound like great ideas.:yeah: I had talked to one of my classmates and she said she would mention my name but I never checked with her to see if she did or if it slipped her mind. I will look into it again. Thanks a lot. thats some great advice I appreciate it.

I work at St. John's as a PCA planing to move up to a tech after the 3 month required period. They get about 300 apps a month for these positions but they just raised their start rate for PCA's to 9.50 hr. The 5 week orientation is paid and runs from 7:30-4:30. Just make sure you put on the apps you fill out online under title that you are a nursing student. That is what I did and I also called until I spoke with a real person not just some recording.

Thanks. i will keep calling till i talk to someone. i dont know if i can stay that long for the training if its not the weekend because of school. Do they work with your schedule?

Well after you are done with the training they will most definatly work with your schedule but I am not sure as far as the training. Maybe summer would be a good time to go and do the 5 week training. I know some people that have had past experience only have to do a 3 day training so maybe they will credit your clincial time as experience. Good luck with everything!

Thanks i am going to need it. it would be nice if they worked with your schedule. well i will keep calling and applying you never know.:wink2:
