Questions about living in Boise

My family is bound and determined to live in Boise once I graduate. We love it there! Vegas is not the kind of place you can live in an relax. It is so hustle bustle! Our education stinks and friendships come and go quickly due to the 24 hour nature. I can't wait for the next two years to be over so we can pack up and move out!!!

So, here's where I pick your brains!

1. How's the education for kids in your opinion? We have overcrowded schools (300,000 students just started! What's Boise's total population...400,000?)

2. How is your housing market doing? (Quickly going up $? Staying steady?)

3. I love Meridian but what area? (Will be spending about $450,000-$550,000 but want at least a 1/2 - full acre, barn not necessary :lol2: )

4. Preference on Hospitals for new RN grad w/ADN

5. What is Eagle like? It seems to me (through paper and internet) to be somewhat upscale. Have I seen it wrong?

6. Any of the Hospitals giving sign on bonuses or relocation bonuses?

7. Why don't you guys post here more?

p.s. School put BOTH of my kids (kindergarden and 1st grader) on the wrong bus on day 1, even after calling me to ask which bus and the 1st grader telling them they were puting him on the wrong one. They were lost for 2 hours. I almost packed up the house over this and moved in with you guys!

My 1st grader (6 almost 7) has had an overwhelming amount of homework since the very 1st day of school. Turns out to about 1-2 hours each night. Too bad they have to eat and bathe.

I can only answer one question. I use to live in Boise. I loved the middle school that I went into!!! My brothers and sisters went to elementary schools there and they really enjoyed them also!!! HTH

HEY! I love love love Boise/meridian.

Are you an RN already? Or considering school. We have limited nursing programs in the area and many are just impossible to get into. (well, possible, but difficult for many)

Schools are great. Lots of fun areas around here. If you are looking for land you might consider Nampa or Kuna. Close to Boise, but more of a farm area. (about 20 minutes outside of Boise)

I work in Nampa and LOVE it. Small hospital (18 bed ER) and so friendly.

I'm going to finish RN education before relocating. It will take me 4 more semesters, hoping to get in for January.

What is your hospital starting pay for new RN grads? I saw a website for the hospital off Eagle (St johns?). They show about $19.50 to start. Ouch! Here in Vegas it's around $25-$30. But..I do hate Vegas. What's the weather like now?

19.50-22.00 is about right. But, you have to remember our cost of living is much less then yours.

St. Lukes is off of Eagle road in Meridian. They have 2 locations, one in Boise and one in Meridian. They are pretty fancy. St. Als is also pretty fancy. Mercy (where I work) is smaller and more rural. But they do have a new cath lab, which has been pretty exciting.
