Hello all!
I currently work in a smaller county hospital, our ICU/SDU are in the same unit, I was just curious if other hospitals have similar layouts and if so what are your nurse to patient ratios?
TIA!

We're similar (small hospital, ICU and patients comparable to SDU) and we are 2:1 usually. Every once in a while we have 1:1 patients.

I'm from a bigger city level 1 trauma center and we're attached to our step down area. Our ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 in ICU depending on patient acuity and 1:3 in step down. In about two years I've had to take 4 patients in step down once and 3 patients in ICU once. Terrible shifts, for sure, but isolated incidents.

SDICU - 3 to 1
ICU - 2 to 1 or 1 to 1 for CRRT, hypothermic
Have only been tripled once or twice due to staffing issues.
