ICU to PACU at surgical center?

Nurses General Nursing

Hello all,

I'm an older nurse but have only been in nursing for 3 years (second career). I work at a small community hospital in the ICU with 24 beds. (I've only worked ICU). I am also graduating with my Masters in Education in about 3 weeks. My question is that I've been approached for a job as a PACU nurse in a Urology surgical center. The offer came from a nurse that I've known for 20 years. I didn't think much about it until I found out that the salary is considerably more than what I make at the hospital. I have no experience yet as an educator. I'm just wondering if others have transitioned to PACU and enjoy it or if there is a path I should take as a MSN educated teacher. I'd appreciate advice! Thanks!

I am conflicted. I assume this urology surgical center is "out patient" only. You will not have to work nights, weekends, holidays, take call, etc. plus the pay is great.

If that is so I would take it in a heart beat. (Well....I do work an out patient surgery center, and LOVE it, love the hours.)

But it seems that you will have wasted the time you put into getting a Masters in Education? Unless you could use your advanced degree to move up into management at the urology surgical center?
