I wished I worked @ Wal-Mart

Nurses General Nursing

So at work yesterday I sent a message to pharmacy saying I hung some vancomycin late.....then I noticed that it had been discontinued, so I sent a message saying that it had been discontinued, so that they would know that I didn't hang it....later I also noticed that they left off one of my medicines from my order, so I refaxed the order, well later I got a threatening phone call from the pharm. Manager yelling @ me asking why I refaxed it...why am I sending messages..that my explanation of why doesn't make sense to anybody...that I shouldn't have done that...that the entire thing was my fault. So naturally I tried to defend myself...then she cut me off and said I didn't want to mess with her...and I know you got me on speaker phone and other people can hear me...and she's the wrong person to mess with..and that she would fix the order. I went home so upset after that..I'm so sick of working so hard to be a good nurse, only to have stuff like that happen. Why am I doing this? I wish I worked @ walmart.

That behavior is completely detrimental to a professional atmosphere. I, myself, would be leery of going to the Pharmacy Manager.

Did anyone else hear her rant?

I've noticed that pharmacists can be busy and think they're the only ones struggling.

Please talk to your supervisor first. And don't feel bad! You did the right thing, and anyone who acts like the manager, should be felt sorry for.

Oh dear. No, you really don't want to work at Wal-Mart. Here is my favorite story from a friend who does work at Wal-Mart.

My friend: "Hi, what can I do for you?"

Customer: "I need to get a mammogram."

My friend: "Do you mean 'MoneyGram'?"

Customer: "No, a mammogram."

My friend: "What are you trying to do, exactly?"

Customer: "Send money."

I found this neat little gadget attached to all phones. You press it and automatically the call stops. I do this to anyone who feels the need to belittle or abuse me. I don't care if it is my boss, a doctor, or a pharmacist. I won't give anyone that kind of power over me. When they call back and ask why I hung up, I tell them if they are done yelling we can talk, if not, call back when they are cause I will just hang up again.

Since we seemed to be involved with all disciplinaries, shouldn't it be more resourceful for the other professionals to work as a nurse for 4hrs during their orientation than vice versa. We can shoot 1 person to 5 different areas to orient or 5 persons to 1 area to orient. (which sounds better?)

Everything is the nurses fault or everything can be improved if nurses do something...let's start holding the other professionals accountable to the same standards......

Absolutely! However, I can only control myself and I'm a nurse. So nursing is what I try to improve. If I can take a few minutes to try to understand the other's POV, then share my own (if they're willing to listen), in order to gain a better understanding and improve a problem area, I'm going to do it.

I can sit around c/o of something or somebody or some other department, feeling helpless and down-trodden, building resentment and making enemies, or I can try to do what is in my power to make things better. I choose the latter. This doesn't mean I take responsibility for everything and everyone else. It means I take responsibility for myself and take action where I am able.

That Pharmacist was rude and out of line, but I CRINGE whenever I hear people say they "wish they worked at walmart"..Don't do it!! It's the most evil company in the world and they treat their employees like dirt. I would rather work collecting trash off the side of road then ever walk into that store again.

You shouldve hung up the phone, and sent another pharm message letting them know when the supervisor wanted to be a professional, you would gladly speak to her on the phone.

*Yes, i know hanging up the phone isnt very professional either, but Ill be damned if im yelled at for something that trivial.

I agree with you 100% percent.

SO are you resolved to take it on yourself to act? That is the only way things will change. IF need be, read some good books on self-assertion. NEVER give away your power whether in a hospital or at Walmart.

Yes I have...the problem is that she is over the entire pharmacy, so I have to find out who her boss is. I think she has it in for me because I'm assertive and usually don't let them talk to me like I'm stupid when they say stuff like..why are you asking for another bottle of insulin...you should already have one...what does it matter..if I had one, would I be calling you? The pat still needs the insulin...why are we arguing about it..just send it and charge the floor for it, like you do for everybody else..oh except me.

Yes they did...I didn't have my earpiece in and 3 nurses and 1 tech were all in shock...she is the pharmacy manager...
