I just wanted to thank everyone who posts here in the Nursing Informatics forum. I have been lurking for about 6 mths reading and gleaning every bit of information I could in order to break into the informatics world. Today I started my first job in this arena as a Clinical Information Analyst, only 2 applications and 2 requests for interviews and 1 actual interview later (it took to long to get 2nd interview scheduled and I knew they would pay less)... This would've been impossible without y'all!! Thanks so much for listening and helping all us newbies!!!

Congratulations! I have to chime in with you to thank allnurses for making all this interaction possible. I also want to thank the allnurses members who care enough help another member. The first job is the hardest to get, especially when you're transitioning from one specialty to another.
Don't fret too much about being paid less. I understand - I have a few moments of depression every time I compare my pay as a new clinical analyst with what I used to be paid as an experienced RN. The same thing happened to me. If you're a new RN with plenty of IT experience, the lack of RN experience will be used to low-ball your salary. If you're new to IT with plenty of RN experience, the lack of IT experience will be used to low-ball your salary. (I have never worked in HR, but I have a feeling their bonuses depend on the amount of money they save an institution by low-balling new hires!)
