I want to work 60 hours/week

Hi,

I want to work 60 hours/week in Dallas as an LVN/LPN. Does anyone else do this? Is it possible to find FIVE 12 hour shifts/week? I look forward to your responses.

Thank you!

Have you thought about working at 2 separate places in case your employer wont let you have all of that overtime?

It might be possible to get 64 hours in a week through a combination of 8 and 12 hour shifts. Keep in mind that most D/FW-area hospitals no longer hire LVNs, and that hospitals are the ones primarily offering the 12-hour shifts. There are a couple of rehab centers in the D/FW area who hire LVNs and offer the 12s, but these places are hard to get into.

With that being said, your main options are nursing homes, home health, hospice, psychiatric facilities, clinics, and agencies. You can work 12-hour shifts doing continuous care hospice through a staffing agency or hospice house. Or, you can work five 8 hour shifts Monday through Friday at one facility, and pick up 12-hour shifts through an agency on the weekend.

However, one facility is not going to let you work 60 hours because they are not going to want to pay out all of that overtime. I work at a rehab hospital, and management starts canceling nurses' shifts after they have worked their 36 hours. This is to keep people from accruing overtime pay.

Thank you to "TheCommuter". I will work on finding a position in LTC probably. MON TUE WED 12 hour shifts at one place and then THU and FRI at another place. I am also willing to rotate my weekends for extra money. Could you possibly tell me of the "HARD TO GET INTO" rehab centers? Atleast if I'm knowledgable of the BEST, I can start networking to see if I can get in the door. I sill have two months before I will be licensed but I want to plan ahead. Also, could you please provide me with some information on how much these types of places will start paying a fresh out of school LVN? I know it all depends on shift diff etc.... I just want a general idea from someone who has actually been there. Again, Thank you for your valuable information.
