Hi all, I am planning to move to Texas, Plano area next year(2yr RN). Since I will not be graduating till May next year, I am wondering if Baylor has internship for new grads (from other states?)
I have looked at the Plano, Baylor website and they said they have internship but didn't mention if it is opened for new grads from other states.
I am also wondering how well Baylor pays. I want to work in OR but not sure if they will hire someone new like me.
Anyone knows anything about Plano, Texas? Any info will be appreciated. Thank!

I know where plano is but all I know is Baylor All Saints Cityview and Downtown Ft Worth. I am pretty sure they have internships at the Downtown location. I am absolutley for sure there are internships at Parkland in Dallas. Good Luck on your move..Welcome to Texas
Do you think Plano is a nice place to live? Do they have pretty nice restaurants and shopping malls?
I think Plano is nice, but your talking to a country girl and the big city is way to congested for me.. You would be close to everything. I hear the schools are good but real estate is high. I dont think I have been shopping in Plano. However,I have done some serious shopping in Dallas.
Perfect! I am definitely a big city FAN. I used to live in LA, California and I always want to move back there. My husband and I had looked at some houses in both LA and San Diego but they were way too expensive.
I think the real estate in Plano is very reasonable compares to California.
Thanks a lot for your information!
Great then you will fit right in.... Good luck:)

I don't work at Baylor, but I do work at another hospital in Plano. Many of my colleagues live in Plano as well. Collin County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation and one of the richest (per capita income) in the state.
Don't limit yourself to living in Plano. The Baylor facility is right off the Bush Turnpike & very accessible from North Dallas, Addison, Plano, Frisco, Richardson, Allen, McKinney, Rockwall, & Rowlett. All the above cities have many, many restaurants, schools, & opportunities for shopping.
Here is the website info regarding OR internships:
Operating Room
Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC)
This includes Our Children's House, Baylor Institute of Research, and Baylor Specialty Hospital.
3500 Gaston Ave., Dallas, Tx, 75246. Phone: (214) 820-2525
Baylor Medical Center at Irving
1901 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Tx, 75061. Phone: (972) 579-8180
Good luck!

My husband's buddy lives in McKinney and that is why we started looking at that area. After researching the hospitals around McKinney, I found Plano.
When I looked at some information about Plano, it just sounds too good to be true. They seem to have good school districts, good shopping malls, good recreation parks... and high population of Asian. I think they have a lot of Chinese there? If I am not wrong???( I am Chinese and I think a 2nd language will help with my job in the hospital in that area. I have tried to learn Spanish but can never pick it up:uhoh21: )
Anyway, do you have any idea, if I should take my NCLEX in my state, and then apply for the license in TX? or should I go to Texas first and take the NCLEX there? What will be the easiest thing to do?
The first link that you gave me is not working. Do you have their home page that I can go to? (you can tell me where to click to find the OR internship site) :) Thanks!
I don't mind working in Baylor in Dallas area as long as the drive is not too bad. I have also looked at North Central Medical Center in Plano. I like that hospital but it doesn't look like they hire or train OR nurses. Anyway, if you know anything, please let me know.
Thank you so much for your help!:)

I moved to Plano from Minneapolis, MN - the cost of living is way less here. Plano is like the Beverly Hills of Texas. It is nice & clean with lots of great shopping & restaurants. The culture will be different than in California - I went through a huge culture shock when I moved here, but over time you get used to it. Baylor in Plano has not opened yet - I think it opens in December. Baylor downtown offers internships as does Presbyterian Dallas, Parkland & Methodist. I am doing a critical care internship at Methodist starting in Jan. I have been a nurse for 8 years, but have never worked in a hospitlal. Parkland is the county hospital - good experience, but kind of low pay.

I live about half an hour from Plano- it's a really nice place to live in and it has a lot of great places to eat, shop, you name it. I'm guessing you are referring to the new Baylor that is about to open next month- it will be wonderful. I would highly recommend Plano, in fact, I had to have surgery this past year and chose to go there because of how nice the hospitals and surgery centers are, besides the surgeons there have a great reputation. Best wishes with your move!
Hi there, I am in MN now. I have lived here for about 4 years and I still miss California a lot. I totally agree with you regarding the real estate in Texas. I wonder why everything is so cheap there?????
Anyway, did you get your license in TX? Do you have to reapply? I will be graduating in May and I wonder if I should take the NCLEX here or in Texas? Should I get my license in MN and then get another one in Texas? Any info will help. Thanks !!!!
