I want to start a career in the nursing field but I want to move to California first!

I'm a new user to this website and I was wondering if someone would be able to give me some good solid career advice. I recently graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy. Currently I am working in a Catholic nursing home as a Personal Care Aid in DuBois, PA. I love my job and would love to become an LPN or RN in the long-term plans of my career. I have also recently decided that I would like to move to Ontario, California for a long-term relationship of over 6 years and would like to somehow move before applying to school at home and waiting much longer to move over there seeing as I have waited 4 years to get through college the first time before moving.

:banghead: Would anyone be able to give me a couple of possible places (hospitals or nursing homes) that I would be able to apply for a full-time position in Ontario or close by that would allow me to survive in an apartment where rent is $1,000 a month? Currently I am working to save enough money to drive over with the basic needs and I am also saving for the security deposit and 2 months rent. Any and all suggestions are welcome and thank you so much for taking the time to read this post!

Sorry - let me get this straight.

You - 23 years old- feel the need to move completely across the continent to be with a the person you have had a "serious" relationship with for 6 years. Transplanting yourself 2500 miles from your existing social support network and family. BUT, you are having to do it alone, with no financial assistance whatsoever from the object of your affections. AND, you will have to continue to manage completely by yourself after you get there, including putting a roof over your head in one of the most expensive housing markets in the US. PLUS, you need to get a NA job full time while trying to get accepted into a nursing school in an uber-competitive area.

HMmmm - is there something I'm missing here? I admire your guts and (apparently) tenacity but where is your SO in all this? Will you get any help at all? Just checking the math, I don't think you'll be able to do it without at least one roomate to share expenses.

He offered to let me stay with him for a little while but the rules of the gated community wouldn't allow me to stay longer than a few weeks unless I already had my own apartment there which is why I am planning to just get my own place from the start. I'm checking out craigslist also in search of a roommate if possible. I'm not overly concerned about where to live as much as I am about getting a full-time job right away. And yes I'm very stubborn with certain things like this, must be the Irish coming out in me lol. Thanks very much for your reply and if you can think of any possible job opportunities please let me know. I'm looking into home health care aside from being a care aid as well.

Nursing programs are almost impossible to get into in CA. If you plan to become a nurse you would be doing yourself a big favor by going to school where you are currently living, then transferring your nursing license to CA. You will incur a minimum one year wait once you get to CA in order to get resident fees instead of having to pay nonresident fees for any schooling you undertake in CA. You will have to save a substantial amount of money to be able to get your own place once you get here. A CNA salary might not be able to get you more than a rented room, so save as much as you can.
