I want to be a nurse.

Published

I am a 25 year old mother of two.

my boys are 5 and 1.

I have always wanted to be a nurse but never have I believed in myself. I never thought I could possibly be good enough.

now after being an office admin for 3 years I work with nurses and residents daily and I love them!

I see them coming in, successful and confident and happy

and my mind is made up.

I'm doing it. I'm tired of excuses and what ifs.

now, I don't know how to start. I know I will have to upgrade. I only took the basics in high school no chemistry or biology or and university courses.

where can I go to find help?

I'm pretty much starting from scratch here.

I'm from ontario, Canada.

I know mohawk and mcmaster offer the program but I just don't know which one to go to or how to start?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Hi and welcome to the site,

Moved this to our Canada Nursing Programs forum where there are a few threads discussing the various schools

To get started, go to the mohawk website and do a search for "ace academic upgrading". You can do all your pre-requisites for free. I don't know which ones you need, but it has taken me a year to do English, math, biology, and chemistry.

These courses will get you into an RPN program, but different schools may specify which of the science classes you need, physics or chemistry.

These classes are all online, and are all free, BUT, they have specific intake dates so sign up as soon as soon as you can. You will also have to do a short online course called "learn to learn" which should only take about a week, but will help you get back into the swing of school.

If you do these classes through the college you plan on attending for nursing, the whole process is easy and your transcripts are automatically transferred.

That should help you get started. Hope it helps. Good luck, you can do it.

I am upgrading my high school online with Virtual High School. Legit, Ontario high school credits. I'm 36, and a mom of 7!

Are you looking at BSN or RPN? Many RPN programs are flexible or part time. Makes it much easier with kids.

Niagara offers the practical nursing alternate delivery program. It is evenings and weekends.

You can also do the ACE upgrading program through Niagara, or any other ontario college.
