Hi, I am 27 years old and have put off my schooling and career to start a family (at 22) and whatever else life has thrown at me. I have never been to college and really cannot afford much at all. I really would like to become a nurse who works in a hospital. I don't even know what kind of nurse that would be called. I don't know anything about college, what degrees I will need, what courses I need to take at all. Can you guys PLEASE help me. I feel so confused and lost, but I feel that if I don't make a move now...I never will. Also, can I do anything for college work online...I know you can, but I mean for beginning courses.

Something else to keep in mind -- I tend to be a little shy and not real forward, so sometimes in those college settings you can find someone who's in a rush or not maybe as helpful, informative, or encouraging as we need them to be.....don't let that discourage you....they're dealing with all kinds of people from immature kids to very adult adults....crabby people, happy people, whatever....just keep asking the questions you want answered and don't stop until you get all the answers and information you need....
The counselors are usually VERY helpful, and can help put you on the right path.....but at least around here, you need to make an appointment.....I suggest picking up the college catalogs for schools are you interested in as well as the current schedule of classes, and see what kinds of classes interest you right now. Maybe something you excelled in while in high school or really enjoyed, and then start there. If you start off successfully, you'll feel more confident as you move further and further along your educational path.
Best wishes!! I didn't get back in to school seriously until I was in my 40's and my kids were MUCH older....I wish I had done it when we were BOTH younger!! :roll
