I want to enhance My CNA license, Suggestions?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hello there, I'm currently a CNA full time (Day shift) IN NYC, I want to enhance my certificate and grow my knowledge in the health care field. I will be going to College to become an RN hopefully, In the fall (or atleast take pre nursing classes) I want to get my CPR, EKG and phlebotomy certificates, along with anything else that will help enhance my License. Any suggestions? Programs? Thanks!

The certifications you listed are plenty. If you have any interest at all in working in the home care setting, you might want to consider getting the Home Health Aide certificate. That is usually accomplished by taking another week of class beyond the CNA course. Should you ever see yourself working in the home care environment as a licensed nurse, the fact that you had previously pursued the HHA certificate could be beneficial as an interview/resume point.

Another possibility: I do not know if this exists in your state. Worth looking into. In my state, there are/were a few schools that train "rehab" CNAs, and/or "acute care" CNAs. The last I saw of this was over ten years ago, and even then, it seemed to be rare. You could contact your state certifying authority and see if they even bother to designate "long term care CNA" from "acute care CNA" from "rehab CNA". Honestly, unless you were to end up working in the designated venues, I wouldn't bother, nursing school is enough to have on your future plate. Good luck with your career.
