I wanna look fly on the job...

So when I think about looking like a healthcare professional, I always invision the light blue surgery scrubs they wear on Gray's Anatomy, draw-string pants, tucked in unisex scrub top. I think it's a great look but I'm not a doctor! Would I look like a "tool" if I wore this on the job?

Also, I'm puney...5'3 105 lbs, NO curves so most scrubs look like I just slipped into a parachute. Does anyone get their scrubs tailored? Can you recommend a brand that would compliment my frame? Also, I see a lot of Physical Therapists wearing just comfy tops (cotton long-sleeve shirts, tee shirts, sweatshirts...etc) with their scrub bottoms. Is this not allowed for nurses? If I had the option, I'd opt out of the scrub top and only wear comy cotton t's.

There are "junior" fit scrubs. Grey's Anatomy Brand has them and some others too.

Baby Phat scrubs are really cute and are made for smaller frame girls, there is also urbane scrubs or izzy scrubs that are made for small women. I do know some nurses that wear the cotton top with the scrub pants, I think it is more of a dress code issue, that you would have to address with your facility.

So I'm like you. 5' 4 1/2" and 100 lbs...maybe a lil smaller than you. I swam in my scrubs all through nursing school. I have my first interview and maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but why not look...I'll find a job someday, might as well know what fits : ) Grey's Anatomy Jr fit is great! Here's the size chart: http://www.uniformsandscrubsbarco.com/thumbnail.asp?cid=36

Personally I believe any of the (small/short) or most of the JR/Petite's should fit you. For women with minimal curves make some. Get shirts that form fit or have back ties. Makes you look curvy even when its not natural.

As for Tee's it depends on where you work. In our hospital units must be in scrubs while ER can wear tee's. Not fair I know and I hear it all the time but we have two different DON's one for floors and one for ER. Our ER DON is very libral and open to anything you want to do/wear as long as you look put together and get your work done. She has sent people home for wearing tank tops or spagetti strap shirts. One of our nurses even came in, wearing a tube top with a scrub jacket over it. Mind you the jacket was not buttoned and the tube top showed lots of skin. So I would check with your DON or dress code policy were ever your working. Some hospitals (mine included) won't allow you to wear long sleeves under your scrubs either, our Floor DON says it leads to bacteria transfer from patient to patient.

I bought a pair of Dickie's Sandwashed scrubs that would fit the bill Dickies Sandwashed Scrubs : LydiasUniforms.com . The XS and S are truly that. Beware, though, of the shrinking! I tried on the sandwashed flare pant and trio scrub top in a uniform store and they fit beautifully - no baggy anything. After washing they must have reduced about one size!

I also have a pair of Grey's Anatomy, and their XS top is too small for me but might work for you.

Your department or office should have a uniform policy. Before you go out and buy anything, I'd check with your supervisor.
