I could use some prayers

Nurses General Nursing

Hello everyone,

I had to take my dad to the ER last night for complications of his hernia repair. I understand it to be a common occurence for this type of surgery, but he is just miserably distended and in pain. He is so bloated he looks pregnant :p

I am the only medically trained family member so its difficult to keep us afloat. I know he just needs some time to get over this hurdle, allow the nurses and docs to do their jobs for him, but he is now dehydrated despite IV fluids and monitoring his I & O's.

I just wanted to ask for some prayers if you don't mind, its hard being a nurse and seeing a family member going through this. But it makes me realize how to best treat my patients. Its a humbling experience and I can always have that in the back of my head with a difficult patient..."what if this were my dad?"

Thanks and God Bless,

JacelRN :p

Having gone through that myself many years ago with both my parents and watch them in pain is very hard for family to do. You will be in my prayers and please write us with an update soon....

Thank you everyone for your prayers and good thoughts!

My dad went home Monday and is now having regular BM'S!

Never thought I'd be so happy about poop. :chuckle

His pain is under control and he's more himself, smiling and cracking jokes. I hope he will not have to go through anything like that again.

God Bless,

JacelRN
