I have two job offers and big question

Published

Hello you all

I have two job offers one in the OR and the other in the Cath lab, I love the units equally and have experience as well, the are offering me the same amount of money.

My question is can I take both? Can I negotiate to do the induction of one first and then the other one? Can I have two full time jobs?

Someone with a similar experience or situation?

Please share with me a good advice cause I'm very doubtful and I need to start in January please please

2 full time jobs? Probably won't work. A full time job and a PRN one can often work, but both of them full time? How would you coordinate the schedules? When would you sleep and have a life?

Two full time jobs means working at least 80 hours per week. With both jobs being in procedural areas, I can only imagine that call would be required as well.

So, let's look at some math:

168 hours in a week.

80 hours spent working = 88 hours left.

Add in 45 minutes per day for commuting 5 days per week (and yours could be more driving between 2 jobs) leaves 84 1/4 hours, assuming that as both areas typically run M-F with only occasional weekend shifts.

Estimating 6 hours per night for sleep (and that's going to wear you out at some point) leaves 42 1/4 hours.

Now, of that 42 1/4 hours, how much will be spent taking call? If I were to judge using my facility, it would be about 20 hours for OR and 16-32 for cath lab.

That leaves about 6 1/4 hours on the lower end of covering call and actually leaves you with a deficit of 9 3/4 hours on the higher end. What would you sacrifice in order to be able to eat, spend time with your family, relax, enjoy a hobby?

Yeah I was thinking in that! :/

And if I take one part time that could work right ? The thing is that the cath lab director probably won't like the fact that I'm going to reject the full time position

Thank you for that insight I think I'm taking OR full time and reject cath lab even though I like it

Thank you so much for your answers
