I think I screwed up..feels like quitting

Hi I'm new in this forum and need some advice , I'm a new LPN in a surgical unit and done with my orientation buddy shift but done a lot of mistakes already e.g med error, let pt go home against med advice without informing doctor bec don't know how to page, and one more, I feel like to quit and just go back as HCA in the same unit 😔

Sounds like you need more orientation. Talk to your supervisor and see if that is an option. If you don't know how to do something aren't there other nurses on the floor that you can ask? You should never risk a patients safety because you are unsure how to do something. Ask someone for help!

You are a new nurse and, unfortunately, you are going to make errors. Ask for more orientation time or run things by an experienced nurse when a new type of situation occurs. Even after a year, I still ask if there is something I am not sure about. Even seasoned nurses have situations where they aren't sure and have to consult other nurses. Hang in there.

Those are mistakes you'll never make again...hang in there, it does get better.

Hey, how long have you been practising as a LPN? It takes a few months or 6 months realistically to settle in a job and position

Don't quit. Nobody died b/c of you. Just try to learn a little quicker and tell yourself you wouldn't be there if other people didn't believe in you. If I quit my nursing gig every time I made mistakes, it would be weekly. I am not expecting perfection from myself anymore, I expect performance. Just get the job done daily even if it's not pretty. More orientation sounds like a good suggestion, just ask if that's possible. Quit bad jobs, not challenging ones.
