how could I do this?

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I am a psychologist who intends to go back to school to become a mid-level health care professional, probably a nurse practitioner. I would like to consider becoming a CRNA too, however. I think I would enjoy the challenge. I don't know how I would get there though. Are there any direct entry NA programs?

Specializes in I know stuff ;).

No, it would be impossible to have direct entry.

You have to become an RN with a bachelors. You do not need your bachelors in nursing but there are pre reqs for each school somewhat different. You may also have to take a few extra classes.

Then you need a minimum of 1 year experience in an ICU. Get your CCRN and take the GRE exam. You are now eligible to apply from CRNA school. You are looking at a minimum of 4 years before eligibility assuming your phych degree has enough transfer classes to cut the program down a bit.

Maybe you should consider reading This:

Few and far between, but they're out there. Check out Georgetown University. I believe their Direct Entry to Advanced Practice program includes nurse anesthesia.

What about an AA position. Emory University has it.

EEEEECK, can't believe on a CRNA/SRNA posting someone is actually advocating this. YIKES.
