I have to share this story...

This is why I LOVE peds! I work in MRI and we have a 10 year old who comes in once a year for follow up scans. He has always said that he wants to be a chef when he grows up and the last time he was in (age 9) his mother told me that he had already become quite the cook and could make a mean spaghetti sauce (homemade--no doctored up ragu here!). He had asked for and received "Emeril" cookware for Christmas and was thrilled.

He came in today and I was thinking on my way into work .I was thinking that this kid is going to be a world-famous chef someday and I will be able to say that I knew him when (of course I won't because of HIPPA)...LOL. Well....I got to work and he was already in the scanner ( he had an early appointment). As I walked past the employee kitchen I got a whiff of this HEAVENLY aroma of cinnamon. I looked on the table and there was a freshly baked coffee cake baked by none other than the boy-wonder chef himself. It was still warm!! He had apparently gotten up at 5:30 that morning and baked us this amazing creation from scratch. I was beyond touched. Not only a talented child but a truly sweet (no pun intended) one as well. A reminder of the rewards of pediatric nursing-- you get to encounter some amazing young human beings.
