I don't have the right kind of experience

Published

I live in NJ and I have worked in long term care and home care for 16 years. I'm looking for a job that requires me to use my brain a little more. Every job I see requires specific experience. I've applied for case management, dialysis, occupational nursing, pediatric rehab, urgent care, public nursing, hospice any many others. The job postings say must have experience or certification in that specialty. How can I get a certification if I can't get a job in a field without experience? Is there something similar to a new grad internship for nurses with experience? How can I break into a specialty?

Hello! I don't know how competitive your area is, but from my understanding, having several years of home health and LTC experience should qualify you to at least be considered for positions in dialysis, occupational health, pediatric rehab, and public health. All are positions I have seen be open to new grads, so why would they not be open to someone with several years of experience?

I think you should take a look at your resume, and maybe message "nurse beth" on this website. It is possible you are not fully selling yourself. Another thing I suggest is directly contacting HR/ nurse managers/ etc. with a telephone call or email to let them know you are actively interested in looking for a job with them.

Thanks for the tips!
