I really believe in Kaplan...

Published

I just found out today that I passed the NCLEX. So far, there has been about 15 of my classmates that all took Kaplans and passed with 75 (including myself). None has failed yet. It seems that the common denominator in all this is Kaplans, and I just felt that the style of the questions were so similar to the NCLEX that it felt like "just another" test I was taking when I was studying so it wasn't intimidating in that sense. I also think it prepared me really well for the subjects the NCLEX tested on.

So for all of you wondering if the cash is worth it... I say YES! Oh, and if you're military, take advantage of the $200 dicount that they offer. Call them and they'll ask you to fax a copy of your military ID and then will charge you accordingly. :-)

Good luck to everyone taking their exams soon!

Congratulations.....I also took Kaplan but did not help me the first time....but as said there is nothing to lose....u will get your money back if u faill the exam....The class did not help me at all, it could me the teacher....but right now I am studying to retake the exam and I got the Kaplan book from my friend....

I believe Kaplan was GREAT in studying fo rBoards BUT NCLEX was nothing like thier Qtrainers or Qbanks.. I took the in-class and online Kaplan review. I found it great for studying but when it came down to Boards, the test itself was much more complicated then any on Kaplan.. and for MOST I could not you the decision tree or ABC's. However with that being said I brough up my scores from a 64 on the first exam to mid 70s and even an 87 on Kaplans Qbank! Obviously thier approach helps but I didnt find it helpful for boards at all.. I kinda depended on it since I felt semi-confident upon Kaplan Readiness Test (Boards Preditor) I got a 71 which predicts you pass Boards at 98-99% chance. I however HIGHLY doubt I did.. Just didnt do well enough. I know it. Less then 20 hours till I find out so only time will tell.. :uhoh3:

I would def. reccomend Kaplan but dont rely on kaplan.. If that makes sense..

First and foremost, Congratulations . I took Kaplan too and really didn't fell that it helped much. Did you do it online and in person? I felt like I could have bought their book and done just as fine. Four people out of my class took Kaplan because cost was too high. No one seemed to like the class or the way it was arranged. Also not everyone passed. I am wondering if it has to do with the teacher too. What scores did you get on the QBANK? The average scores ranged from 52-63 for most of us. Maybe we are doing something wrong. Thanks for your input in advance. Again, Congrats!

Yes, I did do both the online and in class reviews. At first, the inclass review seemed to be questionable in how it would help, but as the days went by, I began to understand how NOT to interpret the questions, and more how to get to the right answer. Of course, there were plenty of questions that the decision tree or ABCs didn't help on, but there were enough questions that relied on the same theory in answering that helped me answer the "right" way. Does that even make any sense?

I watched every single video, and did every single question (including the "practice NCLEX exam") and read every rationale whether or not I got the answer right or wrong. And for the questions I did not know, I would look it up in the book. I wouldn't read just to read the information for that particualar question, I would read to UNDERSTAND. Sort've like the whole "Feed a man a fish, he'll eat for one day; teach him how to fish and he'll eat for the rest of his life" mentality. Lol.

If anything, Kaplanserved as a guide and helped me to focus on each specific category that is tested on on the NCLEX.

As I mentioned above, I didn't do that great on the qbanks. My overall Qbank was 60%

Question trainers: 55%, 53%, 48%, 56%, 52%, 64%, 62%

As I also said earlier, I've had upwards of 15-20 classmates so far who have taken and passed the NCLEX (all had 75 Qs, except for 1, she had 220!) who used Kaplan as their main study guide. Some supplemented with Saunders to help understand the why, as Kaplans focused on the how.

I hope I actually helped and not just rambled on and on. Haha.

Today was nice, I got my license in the mail. But it t wasn't made of gold, like we had come to expect it to be....

Thank you to all for the Congrats, and even if you didn't pass the first time, just keep reviewing, and learning how the NCLEX wants you to answer the question. I don't think they so much expect you to KNOW everything, but just the theory behind the answer...

And Manders, I've got my fingers crossed for you!!
