I am starting nursing school this fall and I need a stethoscope. Our instructors have told us to spend no more than $50. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good stethoscope for that price range?
I have a Littmann Classic II SE that I really love (sophomore nursing student here, BTW)). I think the Littmann is really comfortable, seals out noises well, and picks up what I need to listen for. However, I do agree with what some of these other posters are saying - these Littmanns have a way of disappearing, whether it be accidental, or greed. I also have a couple cheaper Prestige Spragues that I use when I think my Littmann may be in jeoprody (clinical held in sketchy part of town, or really busy hospital floor). It's too bad that I don't feel comfortable using my Littmann everywhere, but when the cheaper Spragues are usable enough and (let's face it) expendable by comparison, I'll sacrifice a little comfort rather than face buying another $70 + steth. Besides, as a student, most of the time I just take blood pressures anyways...

Yeah the forums tab has LOADS of information, down to what shoes to buy.
In regards to "why is everyone so worried about losing things" ..Trust you me, things have a way of finding legs and walking away. A nurse in the hospital I worked in lost her drug reference guide, this big dictionary like book with her name all over it.
Someone saw a CA from the day shift in the lounge using it to do her homework, and she takes it to school with her
I have a pair of scissors i brought from home, to my desk with a hot pink ID Band clearly labeled with my name in BOLD letters. It went missing, finally found it in the intibation kit when they intibated someone.
So stuff happens.
