]I am considering going into the field of pediatrics as a registered nurse. I just wanted to know if any nurses could tell me how they feel about their occupation. I am wondering if this will be right for me. What is the typical day to expect? Is this enjoyable?

Hey Lulubabe
There are millions of diffenent kinds of nurses having millions of different kinds of days. You can find many of them by spending a couple of hours roaming this site. You will not find ALL of them anywhere.
You say you wanna be a Peds Nurse. Let me ask you--did you bandage and splint your dolls and puppies when you were little? Cause if you did, probably you'll find Peds Nursing is for you. My dtr bandaged and taped and 'nursed' her dolls for years. Now she's a Peds Nurse. All the RNs I worked with in the PedICU I worked with had 'nursed' their dolls and pets.
A warning: All of them wanted to be a Pediatric Nurse before they started nursing school--but in the USA all nurses learn in nursing school to take care of adult Pts. Pediatrics is a specialty thats learned after getting out of school. So don't have unrealistic expectations of school.
Good Luck

I really wants to be either a PEDS or a NICU nurse. In fact, I am thinking of trying to get a job at the local childrens hospital when I graduate. I think it would be an excellent idea to try and volunteer in the area you wish to specialize in. The worst they can do is say "no", right?

This is great advice, also, many places allow "nurse shadowing". You may want to see if any of your local hospitals allow it.
