I'm a MSN-ed student at WGU.For the past month I have been struggling to find a preceptor. Although I'm not on the "Field experience" yet, I was encouraged by my CM to start the process as soon as possible . I have more than 15 years of clinical experience as a Trauma Nurse and now I'm in a Mother and Baby floor, most of my experience is at the hospital, meaning that I do not have connections or friends on the academic field. Please feel free to leave any suggestions!!

I don't know if you're still looking for a preceptor, but reach out to the faculty at Valencia College and UCF. Just call and ask if they accept MSN students for field experience work. They can ask around the faculty to see if anyone would be interested in having a MSN-Ed student.

WGU will allow you to use any advanced degree nurse as your preceptor or a BSN prepared nurse who has a certain level and type of experience. If you are mother/baby, look around for the nurse midwives, nurses working in clinical education in your hospital, nurses in leadership positions. It does not have to be someone in academia. Make sure they understand that primarily their role is going to be someone to bounce ideas off of regarding your capstone and doesn't actually involve you following them around or having to invest a significant amount of their day. It is more of a mentor role than an active clinicals type of environment. I got my MSN-Ed from WGU. Don't make this more difficult than it has to be.
