I Need help and tips. Need as much advice as possible. Starting nursing school in Jan

Flash cards will be your BEST FRIEND. Working as a CNA while in school (although pretty hard working and in school) kind of helps to give you a general knowledge of the basics. It will also teach you to appreciate CNAs while you are a nurse I'm still in school, but good luck! :)

Thanks for your reply. I have been a cna for six months now and still working until I am in school. It's true that being a cna helps with learning basics.

I'm doing clinicals for lpn now and it's mostly CNA work...so I'm sure you'll be ok. it's the classes that kick your butt and the only thing that's gotten me through classes are those flash cards and study groupd

Oh and maybe get those nclex apps. It'll get you practicing on the dreadful, everything is correct but which is MOST correct, and multiple multiples!

I worked full time and had three kids and a husband, so I needed to take myself away from all distractions to get any studying done. Any specific things I can help you with, feel free to ask anytime!

I wish I could recommend reading material, but I went to school soooooooo long ago (really!) I agree the flashcards are great. Also, there are some really helpful websites for specific units. I'll try to make a list and send it. I always learned best by taking notes, even out of text books. Something about writing things down helped me to remember them better, plus I'd have my notes then in a portable form to study from whenever I got a free second. The American Association of Critical Care Nursing has a website with lots of journal articles and e-learning tidbits. Its just AACN.org, I think. I'll look for some more info to send along. I started the RN program in August. Seems like most schools use Potter and Perry's Fundamentals of Nursing, read it, absorb it. I love Mosby's Medical Dictionary, and You will need one while reading P&P. Memorize lab values, or learn the new vocabulary and abbreviations. Pinterest.com actually has a ton of great aids, type in Nursing Student.

Can you be a little more descriptive on the books? I haven't heard of them and have zero clue. Which editions etc are the best? I googled but there are several. Thanks

Get a medical terminology book from the library and complete the book by the end of the year. Having this knowledge will help you out in multiple classes.
