I need help for my theoretical framework

Published

For my co-nurses,

I'm quite confused on how will i start on my theoretical framework for my research proposal. (i know TF is a discussion of theories, as my professor told me) However i don't have a clue on how to start or what theories will i use for my topic "Gagne's nine levels of instruction as manifested in teaching Pediatric Nursing"

I hope some of you can help me.:loveya:

I'm not familiar with Gagne's work ... but you seem to have already established a theoretical framework -- Gagne's nine levels of instruction.

So, your first step would be to familiarize with Gagne's theoretical model ... then go through the basic steps of your assignment. If you simply need to write a paper on how that model can be used in pediatrics, take each aspect of the model and show how it relates (or can be applied) to pediatrics. If you need to actually design a research project ... use the model to describe the topic you want to study, define a particular research question, etc. Go through each steps of the basic research process and use the model at each step to define your terms and make your choices about design, measurements, data collection, analysis, etc.

Does that help? I can't tell from your original post what your actual problem with using the model is.

Thanks for the help, however my real problem is that we are taught that when doing a theoretical framework, different theories should be discussed supporting your research study and/or using theories to show where your research is leading to. Now my question is can I use Gagne's theory itself? or do i use other theories? Because my research aims to see if Gagne's nine levels of instructions manifests in teaching pediatric nursing.

Thank you very much.. :)

It sounds like you need to clarify those questions with your intructor. Does he/she expect you to develop new theory ... or to simply illustrate the use of 1 theory? Are you supposed to write a proposal for a research project that would involve collecting and analyzing data yourself? Or is your "research" paper, one that is simply meant to be a summary of other people's research and other library materials. How are you using the word "research"?

From your posts, I still don't understand what your actual assignment is. I suspect your don't fully understand that yourself and you need to go to your instructor and get that clarified in your mind before you will be able to procede further.

Let me explain further, we are required to do a research proposal in one of my subjects, which is methods of research. We are only required to do three chapters: From Introduction, Review of related literature and Methodology. What my instructor told me is that i can do my research if the said theory above is actually manifested in teaching pediatric nursing.

On my way of making my chapter one, i find it hard to do a theoretical framework. Based on what my instructor said, he defined the theoretical framework as a "roadmap" for my research using established theories. That's why I asked if im supposed to discuss Gagne's theory itself or i need to find other learning theories that can support my research.

I'm sorry if it confuses you, but thank you for the help, i really appreciate it. :)

Hi,

You have a great research: simple yet meaningful.

I came across this one model (which I did while researching for a friends' research also) which I think, you can use. Find the Continuum of Knowledge Acquisition Model (Jonassen, McAleese, & Duffy, 1993).

Since you can associate the 9 levels of instruction in teaching pediatric nursing, you may use this as your theoretical framework.

Best Regards!
